Fisherman's Bend Panel Discussion

Unit Head, Professor Billie Giles-Corti, participates in the Fishermans Bend Vision Public Conversation as an expert panel member.

On Thursday 30th June our Unit Head Professor Billie Giles-Corti participated in the Fishermans Bend Vision Public Conversation as an expert panel member.

Fishermans Bend is Australia’s largest urban renewal project, covering approximately 455 hectares in the heart of Melbourne. It will consist of five precincts across two municipalities (the City of Melbourne and the City of Port Phillip) and will connect Melbourne CBD to the bay. It is expected that by 2050, Fishermans Bend will be home to approximately 80,000 residents and provide employment for up to 60,000 people.

The panel discussion and public conversation was facilitated by Deb Cameron (former ABC breakfast broadcaster) and asked the audience to consider questions such as “What can Fishermans Bend be for Melbourne/for me?” The event involved audience polls and live video coverage, and featured discussion and insight from panel members from diverse backgrounds and industries. Professor Giles-Corti offered her expertise in the area of developing healthy, liveable cities.
